"the kind of guy you meet on a Tuesday"

Andreia and Patrick’s wedding was a swirl of art and color, appropriately held at Tope, a rooftop taqueria known for its tasty cocktails and epic view of Portland. Upon arrival I waited for the elevator alongside two men holding gear who were clearly the musicians. I learned they were none other than the Brazilian brothers Johnny and Dom who play music around Portland and host a variety show in Laurelhurst Park in the summer.

The bride and groom, a photographer and a tattoo artist, threw a party that really felt like a party. There were cherubs holding roses, guests covered in ink, the entertaining brothers, and people getting drunk and silly.

Whenever I draw people who have tattoos the portraits don’t feel complete without said tattoos, so I try. But drawing a person with their tattoos is like drawing a living room and trying to recreate the art on the walls. How can you possibly get this detail across? Still, I tried to convey the colorful pieces that adorned the guests, along with the stylish outfits, bolo ties, a cowboy hat making its debut, and many a mustache.

More and more I draw people who met online and seem quite happy. It amazes me. Technology is really out here facilitating true love according to several guests. I drew two guys, Scott and Abel, who made me laugh so much that the portrait looked nothing like them. Abel said that Scott is the kind of guy you meet on a Tuesday, among other things I dare not repeat.

I asked a couple, Lauren and Sam, What’s something you want to do together in the future?

Lauren: I want to travel internationally.

Sam: I want to go down a rocky river on an inner tube.

Almost everyone answers that they want to travel together. Sam’s answer was a new one.

A few people gave me hugs or shook my hand. We vibed.
